Australia reached a milestone in late 2021, with more than 90% of the eligible population (those ages 12 and up) receiving two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and attaining fully vaccinated status, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
This accomplishment is a reason for celebration. The country entered the Consolidation Phase of the federal government’s protocols when 80% of eligible recipients were fully vaccinated, meaning some of the most stringent public health requirements have been removed from everyday life.
While the fight against COVID-19 in Australia isn’t over, and the disease can still lead to difficulties and tragedy, we are in a much more stable position than we were just a year ago.
Other countries, especially developing ones, are still struggling to make this type of progress. One of the largest impediments to offering COVID-19 vaccinations and the protection they provide to citizens of these nations is simple in concept but seemingly difficult to address — namely, a lack of available vaccines.
We can all contribute to making a difference on a global scale in this fight against a deadly disease. How? Through UNICEF’s VaccinAid appeal and the Give the World a Shot campaign.
The purpose of VaccinAid and Give the World a Shot is simple yet vital: supply health workers, educators, social workers and vulnerable populations in every country with access to vaccines. Additionally, this effort supports widespread distribution of COVID-19 tests, treatments and crucial medical supplies, empowering a stronger all-around response to the virus. With 191 nations participating, it is truly a global effort.
The program’s ultimate goal is delivering 2 billion vaccines as well as more than 5 million tests and a similar number of treatments. That sort of distribution can help protect children, the elderly, and individuals with compromised immune systems and other conditions that increase the potential danger of COVID-19 infection.
Funding and distributing billions of vaccines and millions of tests and treatments may sound like a daunting prospect, but so many of us can play a part in making it a reality.
Gerard Malouf & Partners has committed to funding 10,000 vaccinations in developing nations, and we would be honoured to have you contribute as well. A gift of just $25 to VaccinAid can provide 10 vaccines to key frontline workers and members of vulnerable populations around the world. You can visit the VaccinAid website to contribute directly.
Interested in taking the lead when it comes to raising funds? Give the World a Shot provides all of the resources you need to create your own fundraising campaign for this very worthy cause, from a simple process to set up a fundraising page to inspiration about the goal that you’ll reach in exchange for charitable contributions from friends, family and colleagues.
Your goal can be anything from a 5k run around your neighborhood to shaving your head — you get to choose something that you know will inspire your network, and it’s all to support a remarkable objective.
No matter how you choose to move forward, we sincerely thank you for taking the time to learn about VaccinAid and Give the World a Shot. Together, we can make a real difference in the fight against COVID-19 here in Australia and across the world.
