As an Associate at GMP Law, Katia is dedicated to pursuing justice for individuals harmed by institutions and healthcare systems. With seven years of experience, she has successfully represented clients from all walks of life in cases of Historical Institutional Abuse and Medical Negligence.
Katia joined GMP Law because of the firm’s strong focus on the client experience. She is driven by a strong belief that everyone deserves the chance to stand up for themselves, regardless of their financial situation, especially when wronged by powerful institutions.
One of Katia’s most rewarding experiences was representing an Indigenous client in a case involving historical institutional abuse. The matter was resolved through a mediation held On Country for the client. During their healing journey, the client created a painting symbolising their path of recovery and progress. At the mediation, they presented this painting to the Defendant, weaving in their strong connection to land and culture. This culturally significant moment allowed the client to engage with the legal process in a deeply meaningful way, honouring their heritage and personal experience. The outcome—which reflected the client’s needs and story—is a testament to Katia’s belief in the power of integrating cultural understanding into legal advocacy, making the process more human-centred and impactful.
Katia has also had the opportunity to engage with a broader legal and social community. She has presented and participated in Q&A sessions at several conferences, including those hosted by the Financial Counsellors of NSW. These engagements have enriched her perspective and made her a more well-rounded advocate for her clients, as she learns from professionals in other fields who also work with individuals impacted by systemic issues.
At GMP Law, Katia continues to champion the rights of clients with empathy, expertise, and an unwavering commitment to securing justice. Her work is a reflection of the firm’s ethos: to never back down and to always fight for the highest possible compensation for those who need it most.
In the spirit of reconciliation GMP Law acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea, and community. We pay our respects to their Elders past, present, and emerging, and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
