Our client, Mr N of Dean Park was employed with the Department of Education as a Learning Support Officer dealing with developmentally disabled students.
Prior to commencing with the Department of Education, Mr N worked in various labouring roles and truck driving.
As part of his role as a Learning Support Officer, Mr N was required to undertake tasks including tube feeding, administering medication, toileting, maintaining registers, photocopying, playground supervision, out of school activities, lifting equipment, first aid duties, kitchen duties, assisting students at mealtime as well as any other activities required.
The work environment was stressful with limited support. Despite reaching out for assistance, Mr N was unaided and continued to struggle. He later began to find himself the subject of workplace bullying and harassment and was eventually diagnosed with stress, anxiety, depression and personality disorder. Mr N became socially withdrawn, suffered from insomnia and experienced a severe deterioration in the quality of life.
As a result, Mr N ceased all employment in 2015 and has been unable to resume work duties since.
